Gerald Dove
We visited Gerald Dove in 2005, at his home in Northall Green, near East Dereham. His dulcimer was a large, plain and very heavy dulcimer. Mr Dove, who was probably in his seventies then, didn’t have a lot to tell us about the dulcimer. He had known Walter Deacon from Broom Green and had met Billy Bennington. His yard was full of a collection of bygones, and we had the impression the dulcimer was just one among many passing interests during his lifetime.
He donated it to the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust and in 2007 we did some cleaning and restoration work on this instrument as part of a Dulcimer Day held at the then Museum of East Anglian Life. As of 2025, the dulcimer is still owned by EATMT and may be viewed by appointment at their base in Stowmarket, Suffolk.
